SAUCYVT Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Who are Scott and JT?
Scott and JT are two friends who met at Castleton State College in Castleton, Vermont. Scott was a reformed marine biology major who graduated with a degree in Computer Information Systems and Business. JT was a reformed soccer player who graduated with a degree in Biology. They both had great aspirations to live in Vermont, get great stable jobs they enjoyed, get married, have families, eat pizza, play video games, and enjoy life to the fullest. Well, they accomplished a lot of that. However, as many young people of this generation, the job situation was pretty rocky. Both experienced turbulence due to downsizing and a tough Vermont job market. So as life threw them curve balls, they took their swings. And with luck and some daydreaming over wings and a barnyard pizza at A Crust Above, they formed an idea. Then they formed a partnership. Then they formed a business relationship with A Crust Above. Then they formed a Sauce Company. And then, if you are reading this, they somehow reached out to you.
What happened to the "C&C" name and logo?
It is very important for any business to listen to your customers, and to always be learning. After a couple of years of selling our sauces using the "C&C" logo and name, we heard from customers that they were confused. What is the name of your company? What is the name of your sauce? What does all of these things on your label mean? These are great questions, and it led to long explanations. We learned that the "C&C" name and logo were confusing, so we decided to simplify and just use the name "SaucyVT" for all of the products. We also decided to simplify the names of the sauces at the same time, and create new labels. We apologize for any confusion we have caused. The good news is that the sauce has not changed at all - it is still as delicious as ever! Oh, and one more thing - if you prefer to have sauce with the "C&C" label on it, we still have a few. Just request the older label, and we will be happy to send you sauce using the older labels (while supplies last).
What happened to A Crust Above Restaurant?
It breaks my heart to tell you that A Crust Above is no more. It closed its doors for good in September 2015. It happened quite suddenly, but for good reasons, and we can only wish Merrill, his family, and the employees of A Crust Above all the best going forward.
Can I still purchase the fabulous sauces that A Crust Above used to sell and have available for their wings and pizza?
Of course you can! SaucyVT sauces ARE the same sauces that A Crust Above used to sell and have available - with some new additions! You are in the right place! Please go order some SaucyVT sauces today!
There is a little devil-like creature in your logo. What's that about?
Glad you asked. His name is Peplic, and he is an imp and the official mascot of SaucyVT. We do not think of him as a devil, and SaucyVT has nothing to do with religion, devil worship, or anything like that. It seems silly to have to say that, but I bet a few people might wonder. Peplic is all about fun and enjoyment, and turning up the spice, especially when it comes to food. There will be much more written about Peplic as we move on. When you see him, you know that you can find our sauce close by.
Do the SaucyVT Sauces need to be refrigerated after opening?
No, they actually do not require refrigeration after opening. They are shelf stable, even after opening, due to the natural ingredients we use - vinegar, Vermont maple syrup, and honey. These ingredients make sure the sauce does not go bad - they are all-natural preservatives. We can't be in everyone's home monitoring your sauce, however, so we would ask you to use common sense. If you mix the SaucyVT Sauce with something else, the sauce is subjected to extreme heat, or the sauce has been sitting for a year or more, it is remotely possible that you might want to replace your stock. There is no harm in keeping it in the fridge, if you choose to, as well as in the freezer for future use.
Do the SaucyVT Sauces need to be shaken before use?
We recommend that you give the sauce a good shake before using, especially the Voodoo Honey and Voodoo Maple. The honey and maple have different components that can sometimes separate away from the other ingredients. Don't worry - this is natural! Give it a good shake and it will all come together. Also, the SaucyVT Voodoo Original Sauce has so much goodness - cayenne, garlic, and other spices, that some may migrate to the bottom (crazy force of gravity!). A good shake, and you are in for good flavor!
Can I buy your sauce in stores locally?
SaucyVT is continuously expanding the business, working with stores, gift shops, farm stands, and other locations to make the sauce conveniently available to everyone. We can't guarantee that our sauce is available at your local store, but eventually that may be the case. We are listing all of the locations you can find our product on the website, under the tab "Purchase at these Fine Locations". Please check them out, and let the store owner know that you are there to purchase SaucyVT products. Thank you!
I was in a small gift shop recently, and there was a huge wall of hot sauces. I didn't happen to see SaucyVT Sauce there. Why?
We have also been to similar stores and have seen the wall of hot sauces. We have even purchased a few. However, every bottle we have purchased has been disappointing. The labeling is great - monsters, dinosaurs, donkeys, flaming butts, you name it! Anything to sell a bottle. We refer to these sauces as "novelty sauces", as people buy these on impulse, or as a gift, totally 100% based on the cool label. And we would guess that most people open up the bottle, take a taste, and are disappointed like us to find that the sauce is either way too hot or it tastes terrible (or both, in many cases). And then the sauce ends up on a shelf somewhere for years, until it is thrown away. That's a sad life cycle for sauce, although fitting for most novelty sauces, as they are truly not worth the money spent on them. SaucyVT Sauce is different. Our sauce is made specifically to be consumed with food. It was created to be enjoyed due to its flavor, it's all-natural ingredients with no added preservatives, and makes a much better gift than a sauce packaged in a small box shaped like a coffin. To answer your question, we don't think you will see SaucyVT Sauce up on the huge wall of novelty sauces, simply because our sauce doesn't belong there. Our sauce is for people who like to eat hot sauce.
